2019 Sun Hung Kai Properties Hong Kong Cyclothon Cancelled

The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) has considered the fact that the routes of the Sun Hung Kai Properties Hong Kong Cyclothon (Cyclothon) cover a wide range of areas, and any protests taking place before or during the event in any of these areas would hinder the smooth running of the event and affect the participants. Meanwhile, the organizer of the Hammer Series has decided to cancel Hammer Hong Kong. Taking into account these two factors, the HKTB has decided to cancel the Cyclothon this year. As the Title and Charity sponsor of the event, Sun Hung Kai Properties (SHKP) expresses its understanding of, and respect for, the HKTB’s decision, and its appreciation to the HKTB, the Hammer Series, related government departments, and supporting organizations for their efforts in preparing for this year’s event.

With its dedication to promoting cycling in Hong Kong, SHKP will continue to support the development of cycling, and is looking forward to partnering with the HKTB again next year to organize the Sun Hung Kai Properties Hong Kong Cyclothon, an event that fully manifests the spirit of Sports-for-All and Sports-for-Charity.

SHKP is aware that the HKTB will refund registration fees, including charity donations, to the event participants. In order to promote Sports-for-Charity, SHKP will subsidize the amount difference after the registration fee rebate by increasing its original top-up donation, which will go to social welfare organizations funded through the Sun Hung Kai Properties Hong Kong Cyclothon to support service programmes for underprivileged children and young people. These programmes include The SHKP Science and Innovation Project for the Gifted III, run by The Boys’ & Girls’ Clubs Association of Hong Kong, the Youth Cycling Support Scheme of The Cycling Association of Hong Kong, China, and the J Life Foundation’s SHKP Starting Line Project.
