The three-day Hong Kong International Track Cup, which attracted cyclists from various countries and regions, concluded successfully at the Hong Kong Velodrome in Tseung Kwan O at the end of May. Among the participating cycling teams from Hong Kong, the SHKP Supernova Cycling Team, sponsored by Sun Hung Kai Properties (SHKP), sent 11 members to the competition, 10 of whom also represented the Hong Kong Cycling Team. The members attained outstanding results, winning 11 medals in total – two gold, three silver and six bronze.

SHKP Executive Director Adam Kwok said he was encouraged to witness the SHKP Supernova Cycling Team’s success in Hong Kong International Track Cup 2023. He said: “SHKP pays close attention to the development of local cycling sports. Through a three-pronged approach – promoting cycling in the community, supporting elite cyclists, and helping promote Hong Kong as a centre for major cycling events – SHKP has contributed to cycling sports in Hong Kong and enhanced the strength of Hong Kong cyclists, helping them get good results in international races and win glory for the city.”

To provide promising young athletes with high-intensity and systematic cycling training, since 2019, SHKP has officially sponsored the SHKP Supernova Cycling Team to nurture talent for different elite teams for the Hong Kong Cycling Team and groom professional cyclists. Led by a number of retired Hong Kong Cycling Team members, the cycling team has 60 members and has nurtured various promising cyclists over the past four years. Twelve of the team members have been selected as members of the Hong Kong Cycling Team, seven of whom are full-time members and five of whom are members of the Hong Kong Youth Cycling Team. All of them have represented Hong Kong in various international events, including the National Games. Two team members are also pursuing their dream of becoming full-time professional cyclists overseas. The cycling team’s achievements speak for themselves.

In recent years, SHKP has sponsored and organized international cycling competitions and activities, thus helping promote Hong Kong as a centre for major cycling events and attracting more people to experience the sport. This was the second time SHKP sponsored the Hong Kong International Track Cup. Since 2015, SHKP has also been the title and charity sponsor of the Hong Kong Cyclothon. And prior to the pandemic, SHKP introduced the Hammer Series, a famous UCI Class 1.1 Road Race in Europe, and invited 11 UCI World Tour Teams to compete in Hong Kong.

In addition to helping promote Hong Kong as a centre for major cycling events and supporting elite cyclists, SHKP promotes cycling in secondary schools. In 2018, SHKP and the Cycling Association of Hong Kong, China co-established the SHKP Cycling Academy, providing secondary school students with systematic track cycling training to popularize cycling in schools and boost young people’s physical fitness and resilience. The academy has collaborated with over 20 secondary schools. Over the past five years, more than 6,000 students have engaged in cycling promotional activities, and about 600 students have received cycling training. More than 150 students obtained the Track Pass after receiving training, making up over 10% of the Track Pass holders in Hong Kong.
